Women displaced by a recent wave of attacks in the Tsafe local government area in Zamfara state have recounted the shocking ordeal of gang rapes by bandits, Caliphate Trust has learned.
In recent weeks, hundreds of women, including children, have been displaced by gunmen following horrific attacks on several local government villages.
“They rape us in groups, and if a woman or a lady dares to reject their sexual advances, she would be shot instantly. Several women have been killed for not having accepted their sexual demands ”
“A woman was taken from her marital home by armed criminals. They had wanted to rape her but when she refused to accompany them, they started to tear her away from her until one of them shot her despite her husband’s pleas ”, a displaced woman identified as Hajara told our correspondent.
Another resident identified as Mustapha also recounted how his granddaughter was shot for not submitting to gang rape in a community called Bakin Manya.
“When they shot her they prowled the community and attacked those who were going to the cemetery to bury her. The funeral rite did not take place there. His remains were taken to Tsafe to be buried, ”said Mustapha.
Another woman identified as Amina told our reporter that her sister-in-law Ella was hit with the butt of a gun after refusing to be raped by armed criminals who beat their communities. “She was taking her bath when an armed man forced her way into the room. He tried to rape her but she refused to allow it. A fight between her and the armed criminal ensued; he hit her with a gun and she had to crawl out of the room.
“The way these criminals humiliate people is very traumatic and we have no choice but to abandon our communities for our own safety. We have lost a lot to armed banditry and kidnappings over the years, ”she said.
Most of the attacks are carried out by a notorious leader in cattle rustling, Adamu Aleiro. It makes life unbearable for residents of Tsafe and Faskari local government areas in Zamfara and Katsina states.
He claims control over the bandits traumatizing communities in these states.
In 2018, he sent many communities back to eastern Tsafe after security officers seized around 500 cows he was suspected of stealing in Kaduna and Niger states.
He is also the tip of the attack arrow in communities in the Faskari local government area in Katsina state.
He has vowed to stop the attacks and cattle rustling after authorities committed him to a peace deal in 2019, but he has resumed his heinous activities.
The Katsina State Police Command put him at a price for organizing the attack and killing dozens of people in Kadisau, a community in Faskari.
