CJ FCT Inaugurates NBA Abuja EXCO : Assures His Support

The Honorable Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Justice Ishaq Bello has assured the newly elected EXCO of the Abuja Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association of his support.

The Honorable Chief Judge administered the oath of office to the executives of the Branch during an official inauguration ceremony which took place on June 18th 2020 at about 3.30pm in the Ceremonial Court of the FCT High Court. In his words ” I’m beginning to feel the moment has come to see the light at the end of the tunnel and the rift that has endured over the years within the unity bar is coming to an end.” He also urged the EXCO to restore dignity, respect and courtesy for elders at the Bar as that is what the legal profession is known for. He also assured the EXCO of his support for their administration and he believe that the Hauwa Shekarau led EXCO will build the Branch to greater heights.

The Chairman in her acceptance speech thanked all those who worked tirelessly to make victory at the polls possible. She stated that she will ensure that the promised 10-point agenda centered around restoring the glory of the bar, capacity building for lawyers, welfare of young lawyers, mentorship for young lawyers, continuous legal education, strengthening the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the bar and a host of others fulfilled. She assured that the EXCO will operate an open -door policy and pleaded for continuous support.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of learned senior advocates namely Chief J. K. Gadzama SAN, J. S. Okutepa SAN, Chief Victoria Awomolo SAN, Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, Ibrahim Mark SAN and Ikechukwu Ezechukwu SAN who shared words of encouragement and support for the EXCO.

In his words, Ikechukwu Ezechukwu SAN said ” In every human endeavor or social interaction, we must have ideas that are conflicting and I am happy today that it has all been laid to rest. We are aware of the recent judgment of the FCT High Court that laid to rest whatever scintilla of doubt that remained that we are one bar and there is no faction. A house divided will fall and we are one united family. I pray the EXCO inaugurated today will move the Bar forward.”

Chief J. K. Gadzama SAN had this to say ” This ceremony is an additional feather to the authenticity of this branch. We give you our physical, spiritual, moral support, professional and material support. We are at your beck and call from the beginning of your work till the end. We are ready to work with you.” He also said that “those who are on the other side are a part of us and they are our children/younger ones and we will bring them back home and work together so that we can give a corporate image to the entire world as one image as one group, one family indivisible and indissoluble.

The ceremony came to an end with a vote of thanks by the Secretary of the branch Prince Adebiyi Adetosoye stating that it is a new day for the branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
