The EXCO of the Branch paid a courtesy visit to the Grand Khadi in line with their objective to familiarize with all the head of courts in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Ms. Hauwa Shekarau in addressing the Grand Khadi expressed the Branch’s desire to collaborate with the Sharia Court of Appeal and that the branch will not rest in its oars until that collaboration takes place.

Ms Shekarau also stated that the Federal Capital Territory is over thirty-six years old and the NBA has been in the fore front of advocating for the rule of law. It is however, surprising that the NBA Abuja Branch does not have an office of its own neither does it have a bar center that can be called its own despite being situated in the seat of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Chairman further stated that under her watch the Branch will not rest within the two years tenure as it will commence the building of the Bar Center as the branch has already acquired a piece of land for that purpose. The branch will no longer have the need to rent a space for her meetings.

He further stated that the Bar and Bench are two principal vessels and one cannot live without the other but there are some bad experiences that makes one to wonder if the position has changed. It is almost as though the relationship is diminishing and both parties have now become brother hunters.

He also added that the most important thing that impresses him is the intention of the Association to have a second home for the judiciary as a Bar center in the FCT will serve as a second home for any judicial officer.

He assured the Association that the Sharia Court will do its best and will not be left out for the center to take-off without its contribution as the administration firmly supports the branch. Also, he urged the Association to always approach the court if there is ever any issue with the Area Court Judges as the Sharia Court is ready assist in resolving it.
