Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state and his Jigawa state counterpart were attacked by bandits along the highway linking Zamfara and Kano states.
The Governors had attended a ceremony in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital in which Zamfara state governor Bello Matawalle defected to all the progressives congress APC.
The convoy of the governor was said to be returning to Kano when it ran into the unknown gun men.
According to the reports, the Kano state governor was not in the convoy as he had gone with that of Gov. Badaru, which passed the same route earlier before the bandits struck.
The Kano commissioner for information speaking to the press said three police officers were hit by bullets while vehicles in the convey belonging to the federal road safety corps FRSC and ambulance were also ridden with bullets.
The police spokesperson in Katsina, Gambo Isah noted that the bandits barricaded the highway along Sheme-Funtua road around 10:30pm on Tuesday 29 June.
According to him, no incident of kidnap was reported.
Earlier in June , bandits killed Mohammed Ahmed, a lawmaker from Zamfara State.
