The Director General of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, Professor Jummai Audi has pledged to unite with NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) to accelerate access to justice.
Professor Audi stated this during a courtesy visit paid to her by the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch led by the Chairman, Dr Hauwa Shekarau.
Dr Shekarau in addressing the DG and management of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission stated the readiness of the Branch to make itself available whenever they are called upon .
She also used the medium to call on the federal government to support the Commission financially and otherwise, to enable the Commission meet her expected goals in reforming the laws.
Prof. Audi in her response stated that the Commission is looking at the laws enacted since 1976 till date in order to see the laws that need to be updated and the essence of that is to bring it in conformity with the best practice.
The DG added that another reason is to provide access to justice as law reform is essentially changing behavior, character and attitude of people to serve people. She further said that there is a need to visit the FCT Minister to moot the idea to him in collaboration with the Unity Bar to enable the Branch make an impact along with the Commission.
